The typical patient journey at HCOA

HCOA Surgeons and staff members believe in transparency. When you meet them during your pre-op visit, you will have open discussions regarding your hernia procedure. You will be able to see and feel the mesh that will be implanted during your procedure. You will also take the mesh home with you, along with information about the mesh and procedure. In short, you will find your office visit to be fun, informative, and productive.

Your HCOA staff will schedule you for your hernia procedure at a hospital or surgery center near you. The day of your surgery, your HCOA Surgeon will check to see if you have any additional questions. He or she will let you know the length of time of the procedure (typically an hour or less). During the procedure, your Surgeon will implant the mesh you selected and then see you in post-op recovery room.

Typically one week after surgery, your HCOA Surgeon will see you for a post-surgery visit. Your HCOA staff will then follow up with you periodically by telephone to ensure you are happy, healthy, and completely satisfied with your return to normal activities. At any time if you have any questions, your HCOA Surgeon and staff will be there to help answer them.

What types of hernia mesh do HCOA-Certified Surgeons use?

Answer: Surgical mesh has vastly improved over the years. HCOA Surgeons use the latest, most advanced mesh, which is an innovative, lighter weight mesh. This mesh is formed from non-woven microfibers of polypropylene to create a very flexible, high-strength mesh that integrates into surrounding tissue.

How long is the recovery period typically?

Answer: The recovery period depends on what type of hernia you have, your general health, the type of hernia repair procedure, and your normal healing rate.
